Despite the latest financial crisis currently being witnessed in the world, the promising developments occurring in the GCC countries since the start of the third millennium have been slightly affected. The GCC countries have been continuously recording high real GDP growth rates which are among the highest in the world, be it in oil fields or others, which translated in a three-fold increase in GDP within 5 years to reach a 1 trillion US Dollars by the end of 2008. Consequently, the GCC economy became among the leading worldwide economies with respect to the excellent performance it is recording in a continuous manner.

Qatar has recorded in 2008 a 16% real growth rate, which is among the highest growth rates in the region and the world, due to the increase in the energy prices, and mostly due to the increasing participation of the industrial, real estate and financial sectors in the economy.

The region’s Governments continue to commit to drive the development momentum of the public investments. The International Monetary Fund, IMF, estimated the medium-term large investment projects in the region to reach 2.2 trillion US Dollars, of which 215 billion US Dollars in Qatar.

The remarkable performances that the GCC countries have accomplished so far and are continuously recording is not only the result of increase in oil prices, or expansion strategies of the fiscal policies, but also the result of the synchronized and high-record performance of the private sector companies and their commitment to sound and modern management and corporate governance practices.
